Ugh
Notre Dame lost to North Carolina. I guess, considering Clay Aiken is from North Carolina, this isn't exactly the right userpic for this post. Oh well.
I'm pissed because ABC originally had the ND/UNC game on in my area and then switched it over to the USC/ASU whupping in the middle of a pass. Now, I live a state away from the East Coast deep in the Southeast. Nobody in my state is going to give a flying flip about a Pac-10 conference matchup! And, for God's sake, USC/ASU? That's not a game, it's an execution!
Heard that ND eschewed a field goal attempt early in the game and could have one with another late. If that's so, then I have the sinking feeling that my doom-and-gloom predictions about the bad kicking game losing them some games was right.
Well, at least Auburn lost (to Arkansas! :^D) so my day is a bit salvaged. And Miss State won, but at the expense of Vanderbilt, who I was pulling for. And Michigan lost to freakin' Toledo!
So here's how it breaks down on Saturdays: Notre Dame wins, I'm happy no matter what else. Notre Dame loses, I'm unhappy no matter what else, but I'm not totally in a funk if Auburn loses or Miss State wins. If Notre Dame loses, Auburn wins, and Miss State loses, I get funky. If Notre Dame loses, Auburn loses, Miss State wins, and as a bonus Michigan loses (to a MAC team! :^D) I'm happy and a little "eh, that's the breaks".

The message it specifically told me was our smart card (we have satellite) wasn't authorized to view or subscribe to that channel.... wtf??? We've had that channel forever and suddenly when I want to watch a UNC game it decides we haven't purchased that channel.... didn't get it. At. All.
*SIGH!*
It'll probably show up fine tomorrow.
Honestly, once I got over the heartbreaking manner in which this one slipped away, I don't feel bad about this loss. Overall, the team played very well, aside from the stupid mistakes. Unfortunately, those stupid mistakes resulted in FOUR turnovers in the second half (and none in our favor). And even USC or Texas is gonna have trouble beating North Carolina with that ratio. The fact that we still had a chance at the end speaks volumes about our talent and unwillingness to quit. We just still need to mature as a team.
I think this loss, especially going into the bye week, will have some positive effects: The offense now knows they can't get too cocky, the defense now knows that they can't just sit back on their heels and wait for the breaks to fall their way, and yet both squads know that they can compete with anybody. (And perhaps most importantly, Walker now knows that he is capable of kicking a FG from beyond 40 yards.)
